When it comes to modern bedroom design, the emphasis is on simplicity but without losing the flair. Although styles will vary, the basic concept is set on clean lines, solid colors and a few choice decorations.
Neutral, Solid Colors
The walls usually have one color. It’s all right to use bold colors, but modern homes typically go for neutral hues like white, beige, fawn, russet, brown or taupe. The flooring can be the same color as the walls.
To achieve the streamlined look, the flooring pattern designs should be minimal or nonexistent. The same rule applies with the bedding. Avoid or keep to a minimum colorful patterns and textures. Avoid prints and fancy designs.
Wall Hangings
The hangings should be limited to a couple of pieces. You may add a couple more if the room is large, but don’t crowd a wall. For the maximum effect, use modern themed paintings (cubism, abstract etc). A traditional style artwork will look out of place in this room.
Modern Furniture
Modern bedroom deigns usually have streamlined furnishing. The chairs, table, TV stand, bookshelf etc. should have a uniform appearance. Today’s popular furniture are often set in black with glass or metallic elements. These will work well with the sleek bedroom design. Avoid placing elaborately carved wood pieces in the room.
Avoid Clutter
Keep the knickknacks in the drawer. The simplistic approach will be ruined if there are a variety of items scattered about the table or dresser.
Other Elements to Consider
The curtains or blinds should also have a solid color. Look for those that will complement the bedding and the wall color. Keep the picture frames simple too. Ornate frames will look out of place.
Limit the color palette. Too many colors will result in visual noise. Get some paint chips in a home improvement store as they can help with setting the colors.
Tips
If your bedroom will be designed in the classic style, use the appropriate furniture. But you should still avoid using too many colors. Instead, allow the ornate antiques and paintings to take center stage. Do not overcrowd the room; people will have a hard time digesting all the features.
Finally, remember that bedroom designs should reflect the taste and personality of the individual. Don’t worry too much about fashion trends; go with what works for you. Make it a room you will look forward to retiring to at night.
